Our Battle of Camp Wildcat Reenactment held on October 19-21, 2007 was another success! The event was held on the actual 146th Anniversary of the original battle, which took place on October 21, 1861.
We had a film crew there from the Smart Show. The footage was available for viewing on the Internet for a time following the event.
We also had a volunteer videographer at the event, and a DVD with one hour and ten minutes of video highlights of the reenactment are available for purchase from Juanita Westerfield. Contact her if you are interested.
We were happy to welcome back Laurel Home Guard member David Owens, who had recently returned from his second tour of duty in the Middle East. David displayed his re-creation of the battle site in the sand box by the barn. David also had the two books he has written for sale during the event.
Juanita Westerfield also sold a few copies of the book she recently co-authored on how to plan a Civil War reenactment event.

The Laurel Home Guard is interested in compiling all available records of soldiers who served in the Civil War or other wars so we can have the information available at the new Historical Museum.
The Laurel County History Museum and Genealogy Center will be coming soon to the Heritage Hills property located between exits 41 and 38 on I-75 (accessible from the Falls Road in London).
The History Museum will have a special emphasis on early migration routes and military conflicts. There will be a small theater for films and plays.
The Genealogy Center will be easily accessible and available for research. This facility will be located at the large barn on the property.
Both barns are scheduled for major renovation, and bids were let in November, 2007. The plans look great, and the property will be highly visible from the Interstate and will attract many visitors.
Please help this new facility by providing copies of your research and records. Contact 606-878-6900 for more information.
The Laurel Home Guard is grateful for all the support that we have received in the past and continue to receive from individuals, businesses, county and state agencies, and the many volunteers who help keep us going.
Please contact Juanita Westerfield if you would like to volunteer to help with the 2008 reenactment event or with other events throughout the year.
Thank you all for your support. We look forward to another successful year in 2008!
