THE LAUREL HOME GUARD

THE LAUREL
HOME GUARD
is a 501(c)3
non-profit
organization

THE LAUREL HOME GUARD has hosted the Camp Wildcat Reenactment since 1989. The event was first held on a farm near the site of the original battlefield.

When the opportunity came available in 1998 to purchase a portion of the Confederate encampment site, T
HE LAUREL HOME GUARD worked with the Camp Wildcat Preservation Foundation, Inc., to raise the $45,000 needed to buy the property. THE LAUREL HOME GUARD raised $15,000 specifically to donate to the purchase of the Confederate encampment site. The reenactment was then moved to that site.

T
HE LAUREL HOME GUARD made a commitment to purchase two adjoining pieces of property in an effort to continue expansion of the site. The Rockcastle County Fiscal Court donated a historic bridge to THE LAUREL HOME GUARD to use in crossing the river to our newly acquired adjacent property.

Numerous fundraising events are held throughout the year to enable the reenactment to continue to grow, to provide maintenance to the reenactment site, and to keep the reenactment event free and open to the public.

T
HE LAUREL HOME GUARD continues to work in conjunction with the Camp Wildcat Preservation Society, Inc., the Laurel County Fiscal Court, the Rockcastle County Judge-Executive, the London-Laurel County Tourism Commission, the Rockcastle County R.O.T.C., and other organizations to make improvements to the battlefield site and the encampment site, present historical interpretations, and explore tourism possibilities.
